How to differentiate between two Psychology Courses

A lot of students get confused between the MA Counselling Psychology and MA Clinical Psychology. This is part of the fact as these subjects have an overlap between counselling and clinical Psychology.MA Clinical Psychology focuses on basic understanding of mental health issues across life span and psychopathology, assessment and theoretical knowledge of primary intervention considerations, where as the Counselling Psychology along with the basic understandings of mental health issues and psychopathology it also equipped the learners to practice as a Counselling Psychologist to deal with mild level of emotional or psychological issues with a focus on primary prevention and promotion of psychological well-being through counselling services. But not authorized to deal with the Clinical Cases.

The one who has completed MA in Clinical Psychology is known to be Psychologist and the one who has done MA in Counselling Psychology is known to be Counselling Psychologist.

Difference in the Work Orientation

The work of Counselling Psychologist focuses more on emotional, social and physical issues that arise from typical life stressors or issues associated with school, work and family setting. Thus their work is more client centric focusing on wellness and prevention rather than identifying psychopathology or practicing intervention. They can work in schools and colleges as a student counselor, career counselor and counselor.

Whereas, the work of Psychologist focuses more on basic assessment of mental health (by using psychological scales) and promotion of subjective well-being through organizing awareness programs. They can work with corporate organizations as a Psychologist.
